Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is the last place that we hadn't visited, so we put studying to the side and got on the earliest ferry we could to do a day trip. It was so worth it.

It's a big island by bike, which is how everyone gets around since there are barely any cars at all on the island. We rented bikes right away and got going.

This picture is of the Perth skyline, it's a tiny speck, which is why I took a picture. It's so tiny!

The island has so many beautiful beaches, and it's as if everywhere is deserted.

Our plan was to bike around the whole island, which was supposed to take about a whole day. Some of the girls wanted to stay on one beach and just relax, while a group of us wanted to bike around and explore the island. We ended up stopping at several beaches along the way

This is a quakka. They are native to the island, but they seem to only surface around eating establishments like this fish and chips place we stopped at for lunch.

This is just a place where we all got tired from biking and stopped for water. We looked out over the cliff and there was this gorgeous view.

Once we left this stop we all ended up losing each other. The biking wasn't casual but actually really intense. It was all big hills, up and down, up and down. Keith's tire blew while he was going up the hill. The last time I saw him he was walking his bike up the hill behind me because he was tired. I was lagging behind from the rest of the group, trying to wait for Keith but also not lose the group. I ended up deserting Keith AND losing the group. I biked where I thought the rest of the group was going, about twenty minutes later, with sore butt and thigh muscles.

I turned around to bike back around the whole amount of the island that we'd already travelled. Then I ran into Keith at Ricey Beach. His tire blew and he'd been there that whole time. He called for a new bike from the company he rented from and they came with a new bike. Then we went down to the beach to relax. Out of all the beaches I saw on Rotto that was my favorite. It was definitely the most beautiful and there was ocean in every direction it seemed.

After relaxing for a while, we decided to bike back to teh beach we initially left from. It took a long time but it was quite an adventure. All the biking was intense, but the view was spectacular. One crazy thing that happened on the drive back was when we were just biking along and then I looked ahead and it looked like either a stick or a snake on the ground ahead of my bike. I quickly realized it was a brown snake and moved out of the way. Afterwards I said something to Keith like, oh that snake was probably totally safe. Keith clued me in that it was one of the most deadly in all of Australia. Lucky I didn't ride over it in my bike I guess!

And off we were back on the ferry to Freo and exhausted from the full day of beaches and biking!
