Melbourne: Cultural and Sporting capital of Australia

My friends and I (five others) went on a road-trip on the East Coast of Australia. We flew into Melbourne, rented a van and drove up the coast to Sydney, stopping in beach towns on the way up. We came across some obstacles along the way, but still managed to have a great time. So here goes!

This is the train station in Melbourne, a pretty famous building for it's beautiful architecture. The photo below is the more common view of it.

This is the Young & Jackson Hotel Bar. We made it back here later in the night. It was a Tuesday, therefore pretty quiet in the city, but this bar is famous for containing the "Chloe" painting, which I have a photo of later in this blog!

Once we arrived, we noticed there were kids on leashes everywhere! I think it's a crazy idea to have a leash for your kid, convenient I know, but it equates them with a dog in my mind. A lot of them were being held by their barely-older siblings like this case too.

This was a street performer who we watched for almost an hour. He was hilarious! I'll upload a video I took of him performing as well. This poor woman had no idea she was biking through a show and then he stopped right in front of her and wouldn't let her pass. She clearly was annoyed and felt really uncomfortable, but it was hilarious! Look at his outfit too, haha!

This is the Tram in Melbourne. It's really easy to use to get around and works just like the T in Boston. It's something that's very characteristic of Melbourne.

This is just a beautiful church we walked by.

Melbourne is also known for having really beautiful architecture. I found that the same was true of Sydney as well.

This building was really beautiful but we couldn't go inside to have a look :(

Next stop: Chinatown...

This was a courtyard area we stopped in that had really beautiful Asian culture decorations..

This is just another entrance to Chinatown, which all stretched along one street.

Some cool graffiti I saw on the walk through Chinatown.

I just liked this building. It's different than the kind of buildings that are in the cities in the States I thought.

While we were aimlessly walking around we stumbled upon this beautiful Catholic church.

This is "Chloe" a very famous painting that was in the bar we went to later that night. It's famous because it was one of the first nude paintings in the late 18th century and was considered extremely controversial at the time. When it was painted it was practically worthless and now it's worth millions.

And this was our Wicked Van...the one that broke down when we were in Eden, Australia, a random hick town on the East Coast. A horrible, illegitimate company- ahh it makes me angry just thinking about it! You can even tell it looks super run down and in bad shape...

This was all the time we got to spend in Melbourne. It was fun and nice to be able to casually walk around and see the city that way, but there are so many more things we could've done had we stayed longer. For example, there's an Ice Bar, where the entire bar is made of ice and there are huge ice luges and everything. We never made it there, or to any musical performance or the several streets famous for their amazing international food. Hopefully later in life I'll be able to return!

At this point we were on the move up the Eastern Coast of Australia...
