Quaint Lakes Entrance, then Stuck in Eden...

We arrived in Lakes Entrance (yes that is the name of the town, not a sign leading to a lake), which was a little beach town will nothing to do but go to the beach, eat Fish N Chips and cruise the surf shops.

We went to check out the beach when we arrived, which was just a five minute walk from our campground.

It was an absolutely beautiful day and was nearing it's end so it was perfect temperature.

This is a black swan that we saw in the inlet, but Australia has a lot of them I think. There is a lake just a ten minute walk from campus and there are tons of them there. I didn't even know they existed before coming to Oz.

For dinner we went into one of the many Fish N Chips places along the strip. Turns out we chose the wrong one-the girls working there had no idea what I meant when I walked in and said, "Can I just get the classic Fish and Chips?" ...I ended up with Flake Fish...which is SHARK! I was pissed, but it actually tasted really similar to basic fish and chips. At least I can say that I've tried it now. Apparently Australia is one of the only places where people eat Flake, along with Asia (they eat shark fins though).

We sat by the docks to eat and I thought this boat was pretty.

This is a view of the surf shops and is what most of the town looked like...

The weather wasn't looking too good for another beach day so we headed out to hopefully reach our next destination 5 hours away that night...

...until our transmission gave out in the van. All of a sudden we could only drive in 2nd gear, but we were literally in the middle of nowhere so we kept driving until we reached the next town.

Eden.

We found out that we'd have to stay the night, maybe even stay until Tuesday (our flight home was Sunday and it was only Thursday of our seven day trip. Needless to say we were stressed and worried about having to pay for the new transmission, which would put most of us out of our next vacation. That didn't end up happening but we were stuck in Eden for two and a half days, frustrated. We were able to leave the Wicked van in Eden and take a bus all the way up to Sydney.

This was the view from outside our hotel room.

Eden is known for its Whale Watching. We didn't get to do this while we were there because we always had to be around to hear about the van, and it was rainy and bad weather so we couldn't.

Entertainment options were limited...a $2 toy store proved to be one of the best options...where Ivan bought this recorder, ha...

We walked down to find the beach and ended up on this deck overlooking the ocean; it was really pretty though!

If it hadn't been horrible weather, Eden could've been a nice surprise, but it was freezing! We tried sitting out on the beach, but we were miserable. It occured to us that we were homeless (not a good feeling in case you were wondering) so we staked out in this cafe for hours. The woman who owned it was such a sweetheart for letting us stay there. Plus I think I had the best Strawberry-Banana Milkshake I've ever had! :)

We made Eden fun and made some friends with locals at the two bars in town, but were certainly glad to leave and continue our Holiday. We got the bus at 2:40 a.m., the only time it came though Eden. So we caught the bus, slept for the 9 hour drive, and awoke in Sydney!
