One Movement Music Festival Weekend

My university here, Murdoch Uni, offered free tickets to this concert festival so my friends and I obviously went. The festival went all weekend, and Saturday turned out to be the hottest day that we've had here thus far- 37 C! That's like 98 F... so my friends and I didn't go until around 2 on Saturday, hoping to beat the major heat. We just caught the train into Perth and we were there!

This is the ferris wheel and needle that are right on the water of the inlet. I had only seen them at night before, so it was nice to be there in the daytime.

The concert was pretty packed, but it wasn't as pushy as it is in the U.S. Usually at the concerts I've been to where it's just a lawn, not an assigned seat, everyone is pushing and cutting in front of eachother and everything. Here everyone was just chillin, relaxing listening to music, not caring how close they were to the stage. I was pretty surprised.

Another reason we went early was to see Matt Nathanson, an American artist who had a pretty popular song on the radio a few years ago called "Come On Get Higher"... His voice is amazing- my favorite song of his is called "Still."

We were front row watching him! Afterwards we got to meet him and he signed the free shirts that we got :) He was really down to earth and funny too.

This was this awesome combination of a Moon Bounce and Volleyball- my friends and I obviously played. It was nice too because every time the ball would fly out of the moon bounce they would run and get a new ball for us. Pretty sweet.

I thought this was really cool too; It was a dance floor where everyone was listening to the music in their headphones, so to people walking by, everyone looked like idiots dancing to no music. Such a funny idea!

We just bopped around all day, sitting on the grass and listening to good music. It was cool because most of the bands were Australian, but there was a good mix of international musicians as well.

Once the sun started setting, the music got a little more upbeat! This is Fefe Dobson, who's a Canadian pop singer. Her songs were catchy, but only had meaningless chorus'.

I was interested to see this performer from Thailand-until she was horrible! She kept saying "buy my new album" "buy my new album." It was pretty sad and desperate. Her name is Tata Young. At least the lighting and backup dancers were good.

This is Snob Scrilla, an Aussie hip-hop artist. He had a lot of energy and really got the crowd pumpin, but I couldn't understand anything he was saying, so I couldn't even tell if he was good or not.

We also heard another kiwi hip-hop artist called Scribe, who seemed pretty good.

My favorite band of the whole weekend though was this Australian reggae band called Blue King Brown. The lead singer was really cool and was amazing on the guitar.

Their backup singers were all Aboriginal and wore the cultural white paint on their faces for the show, which I thought was pretty cool.

We rested up by the pool the next day before going back to the concert at night! These are my friends Derrick and Ivan lounging in the pool while my friend Tess and I were trying to read without being distracted by the beautiful weather- a hard task it proved to be.

We arrived later than we intended on Sunday, but luckily were able to see the Hilltop Hoods perform. They are the best Aussie hip-hop group and everyone knows who they are. Apparently a lot of hip-hop artists in Australia fake American accents and try to rap about the streets and stuff, but it just isn't the same because Australia doesn't have the same level of infestations of crime and slums that America has (also their American accents are really bad- they sound like dumb Southerners haha).

It was hard to see the stage because everyone at the concert was there watching them perform. It was really cool to be able to see such a popular Aussie group perform live!

This is my friend Jess and I in the crowd watching the Hilltop Hoods!
