My Solo Day in Perth

I decided to go into Perth city because I don't have class on Wednesdays. I ended up just walking around, exploring and doing a little shopping. Perth is such a small city, but that also makes it easier to navigate and less overwhelming/scary.

Some Banksia flowers.

I went to the Art Gallery of Western Australia, which is mainly Aboriginal art. I wasn't allowed to take pictures, but I was able to sneak a few! Also I wrote down some of the names of the artists/paintings I really liked.

This is jewelry created by an Aboriginal artist.

This idea resonates with Aborigines' belief that everything in this world is connected, living and dead, past and present, etc.

Beautiful painting- it has the signature characteristics of typical aboriginal art: tons of little dots (representing people) and a big snake.

Fishbowl with cupped hands- pretty clever I thought.

This artist is Richard Woldendorp, who uses nature as his inspiration and takes abstract looking aerial photographs that are really surreal and amazing...

This is overhead a beach in WA.

This is of wind currents on the ocean.

This one is Charles Blackman's "Triptych Alice." He after first hearing the tale of "Alice in Wonderland" was inspired and over a period of 12 months, created 46 works incorperating her in frustrating and bizarre situations, mirroring his wife's battle with losing her eyesight.

This is Aboriginal artist Vernon Ah Kee's "Born in this Skin," reflecting Aboriginal faces up close.

This statue is right outside the Art Gallery of Western Australia. I thought it was pretty funny, because it looks like he's looking at something up on the building ahead of him, making new passerby (like myself) look to see if there's a second piece of the puzzle...that there isn't, ha.

This fountain is also right outside the Art Gallery. A child was swimming in the fountain this day since it was particularly hot- his parents dipping their feet into the pool and watching him swim around.
